Four fractions fun ways

Teachers can try these fun ways to make fractions fun:
Fractions are everywhere!

Whether it’s a pizza, sandwich or window pane, fractions are all around us. Challenge the kids to walk around school and take pictures of all the “real life fractions” they see and get everyone to share their photos with the class.

Get creative!
Get the kids to create their own fractions flowers. Using simple items like paper plates and coloured pencils. This will make learning both fun and interesting. Use chocolate or their favourite sweets to act as the numbers.

Embrace technology!
We all know how much today’s generation of learners love technology, download an app called Slice Fractions which has the two-fold effect of helping kids learn fractions as well as physics. Their fraction, geometry and physics skills will be put to the test while trying to save a friendly mammoth. There are many more exciting games on the App and Play stores for you to check out.

Get cooking!
Another fun way to make fractions top of mind is to get kids in to the kitchen. Baking is a particularly exact science which relies on getting the measurements of each ingredient exactly right. You can Google almost any cake or cookie recipe. Best of all, you get to eat the results!
