No valentine

Days like Valentine’s Day can be fun and exciting at school and doesn’t have to be about romance.
You can appreciate friends, family or even a favourite teacher on Valentine’s Day.
Teach your kids that it’s about appreciating others and help them to appreciate the people they care about. They will feel good when they make someone else feel appreciated and that might even lead to their friends appreciating them in return.
If your child doesn’t have a Valentine and feels left out you can do the following things:

  • Let them organise a fun activity with friends like going out for ice cream or a movie to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
  • Don’t make a big fuss about it, but reassure them of how special they are and spend some quality time with them doing something they enjoy.
  • Don’t ignore it or pretend like it’s nothing, this can be something that your child experiences as rejection. Talking about it can help them feel better.
  • Don’t try to downplay it by teasing your child.
  •   You can give your child a small gift to brighten up their day.
