How to develop fine motor skills


Good fine motor skills are very important for school readiness. Your child will use these skills to write, draw and cut in school. If they lack good fine motor skill they will get tired quickly when they do their school work and they will work slowly.

Activities to develop fine motor skills
  • Playing with clay or cookie dough.
  • Thumb war.
  • Finger painting.
  • Manipulating small objects with their hands and fingers.
  • Opening or closing jars.
  • Knitting.
  • Threading beads.
  • Playing with squirt toys in the bath.
